Pro/Con Risky Business Project (Draft) - Depression

Teen depression is a serious issue that teens may face through their teenage lives. Teen depression isn't all about being sad, stressed, or miserable. Depression is when a person is suffering from a deep emotion that is caused by events that has happened in their life. Treatment can treated in various ways such as medication or therapy (counseling, etc.). The difference between both medication and therapy is time and how effectively those treatments will work. Though time shouldn't be the worry, it's about helping the person out that is suffering from depression.

People who suffer from depression may experience fatigue, hopelessness, tired, and exhaustion. Some other people may experience irritable, thoughts of death or suicide, lack of concentration, or lack of energy. All of these symptoms are caused by abuse-past physical, sexual, or emotional abuse, certain medication-some drugs used to treat high blood pressure increase the risk of high blood pressure, conflict-personal conflicts or family conflicts, death or loss-sadness or grief from the death or loss from a loved one, genetics-a family history may increase the risk of depression, major events- new hob, graduating, getting married, moving, etc., or a serious illness.

It has been proven that both counseling/therapy and Antidepressant Medication was effective mainly for the people who were suffering from depression. Although, Counseling/Therapy is more effective than the Antidepressant Medication, I feel that patients that are suffering from depression should be treated with medication especially if some of their symptoms are very severe. Many professionals have said that both counseling/therapy and antidepressants are more effective by working together as one.

One of the biggest issues about psychotherapy that there are not enough of experienced therapists that are able to treat these patients that are suffering from depression. You can go to a therapists that is less experienced and has no skills, but you are just wasting your time and money but you wouldn't improve on your depression. Medication would actually work and may improve on your depression instead of going to therapist that is less professional. Antidepressants can help with the symptoms of depression and will allow you to make life changes.

Teens or anyone who is suffering from depression should be treated with either counseling/therapy or medication or maybe both. Although medication would most likely to help relieve some of the depression symptoms that you are suffering from. By taking medication or antidepressants it would be more effective and you wouldn't waste your time unlike going to a unexperienced therapist.

College Essay Draft

The college that would most likely to apply to is UH. UH does not require any essay so I decided what I am most interested in which is Sports Medicine.

As I was younger, I didn't have the right people to guide my way through school. The ones that I thought were going to be there for me, ended up not. It would mess up myself mentally by not focusing on my academics. The only way I could express my feelings were through sports. Playing sports helped me release all the fustrations that I've been going through out my life. Now that I'm in high school, I have learned and being able to manage both my education and sports at the same time.

I have been playing sports for a very long time. I have been playing basketball, softball, volleyball, football, swimming, and also surfing since I was 4 years old. While playing those sports, I have faced different injuries. Some examples of my injuries that I have had were a concussion, 2 broken wrists, a torn MCL in my knee, & many more. I have come to realize that I would want to learn more about these injuries and how you could prevent them from happening.

In the future, I would like to help our athletes so that they are have the opportunity to exceed in the higher level of the sport that they play. I would want to study the most common type of injuries that most athletes injure so that they are able to heal faster because I would know what to do. I would want to be the person that I can say honestly that I help that athlete to where he or she is now at.

Blog 1: Describe your coming of age experience.

Coming of age is seeing the reality of what life is really about. As a child, we would take everyday things for granted. We rely on adults to take care of us financially, physically, & emotionally. As a child we take advantage that our parents would always be there. As we get older, we look at life differently. We are forced to become more responsible and independent. We learn to admit to our mistakes and make the corrections. We respect adults even more because we realize what they go through everyday.
Going to a small private elementary school, I felt that I was being harassed and stereotyped. My parents didn't make a lot of money and the school was mostly made up of wealthy asian people. I was never good academically and had a difficult time in writing and reading comprehension. My teachers would make me feel brainless. Feeling stupid has always been a huge weight on my shoulders.

Entering high school, I still have those feelings that I'm stupid. I had many obstacles during my first year which made my self esteem go down. My low self esteem took part in the mistakes that I made. I take full responsibility for those bad choices. There were things that I took for granted and in the end it back fired on me. I have learned from my mistakes and I am determined to better myself. With time I'm hoping to build up my self esteem and make better choices.

With age you learn from the challenges that you faced. The choices that you make will either make or break you. Only you can make the choices that will change you. Hopefully others will see these changes and see you differently.

Journal #20: The New Year's

All I could do is wait, waiting for a New Year to come. Ten Seconds were counting off, 9, 8, 7, ... 3, 2, 1. In every direction I turned, I could see colorful fireworks & people cheering saying Happy New Year. Aerials being lit and Chinese Crackling Ropes popping bringing smoke into the air. Two hours have passed, and I was sitting on the roof of my house, just looking at the stars thinking about the goals that I would want to accomplish. Happy New Year (;
